Environmental management

Environmental management

Draka ensures that its product portfolio, services and business activities comply with all relevant local and international environmental legislation. In addition, Draka management decided that each and every production facility must have a certified environmental management system ISO 14001 in place by 2010. These management systems set specific reporting and improvement targets for environmental management allowing each Draka production facility to tailor environmental management to address its specific situation and needs. The cycle of permanent improvement is supported by training programmes that enables and encourages employees to contribute as much as possible to these improvements.

The overwhelming majority of Draka manufacturing facilities are certified already and remaining facilities have committed to a certification schedule in 2009 and 2010. In its research and development Draka focuses on innovation and cable design with a reduced usage of raw materials and less environmental impact. Draka is also reducing the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes.

The performance of Draka’s facilities on carbon reduction and other global warming gasses is publicly disclosed by Draka’s voluntary participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project. Draka will continue to invest in cable solutions in support of the solar and wind industry as well as a commitment to new sustainable design parameters for future cable solutions.
